Rayville Police Chief Markus Turner led another one of his impactful Choices2Consequences tours to Angola State Penitentiary with the 11th grade boys from Rayville High on March 13.

Students had the opportunity to listen to individuals who have been sentenced to life in prison, learning firsthand about the realities of prison life from those who have been incarcerated since they were just 17 years old. One particularly poignant story came from a 72-year-old offender, who shared how one unfortunate decision led to the lifelong consequence of being separated from his home and loved ones.

Turner emphasized the importance of community solidarity in addressing crime, advocating for a compassionate approach which holds offenders accountable while also recognizing the profound effects of their actions on the community’s safety and well-being.

“It’s crucial for us to come together and support preventive measures to ensure a safer future for everyone,” Chief Turner said.
