The Mangham Town Council hopes to find a solution to the town’s budget issues when it meets at 6 p.m. March 13 at the community center.
“I met with the mayor for about 45 minutes on Friday and I think we’ve worked some things out,” Police Chief Perry Fleming said. “What it comes down to is we’re going to cut back on spending and write more tickets.”
The town is attempting to overcome an $80,000 budget shortfall for the police department caused by overspending funds from the town’s new automated speeding ticket system.
Mayor Charlotte Boone said the ideas they discussed will be presented to the council at tonight’s meeting.
“The council has to give approval for whatever we do,” Boone said. “That is what I’ve been working for since my first day. I don’t want to take anything away from the chief or the police department. I just want to make sure everything we do complies with the laws and we have the records and systems to show that.”
