The Richland Parish Sheriff’s Offi ce is mourning the loss of Sheriff Gary Lynn Gilley.
Sheriff Gilley was born Aug. 24, 1958, passed away at St. Francis Medical Center on Dec. 14 surrounded by his loving family. Sheriff Gilley was a highly respected law enforcement officer not only in Richland Parish, but in the entire community of north Louisiana for nearly 30 years. He has been married to his wife, Judy, for 47 years. They have two children and four grandchildren. He was a member of Mangham Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

Local law enforcement officials expressed their reactions his death. Chief Roy Williams said the entire staff of Delhi Police Department would like to send their sincere condolences to the family and the Richland Parish Sheriff Office. “We will keep you uplifted in prayer,” Williams said. Chief Perry Fleming and the Mangham Police Department added their sincere condolences as well to the family of Sheriff Gary Lynn Gilley.
“Please be in prayer for the family, coworkers, surrounding departments that work closely with the sheriff,” Fleming said.
The governor normally appoints an interim sheriff to serve in Gilley’s place until an election can be held.
Prior to being elected Sheriff, Gilley served as the senior criminal investigator for the Ouachita Parish Sheriff Office. He served as a patrol deputy, juvenile officer, correctional officer and criminal investigator with the Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Gilley was a graduate of North Delta Regional Police Academy His training included crime scene investigation, dna procedures, advanced criminal investigation, securing and collecting evidence and mobile phone technology.
Sheriff Gilley was a charter member of Wellspring Safer Task Force on domestic violence.
He was also a strong supporter of the NRA, Ducks Unlimited and White Tails Unlimited.
