DAV chapter offers free transportation to veterans

The General Claire Chennault, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Chapter No. 51 of Monroe, Louisiana announced the launch of the Veterans Administration (VA) Van Transportation service to the G. V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi beginning Nov. 2, 2017. This free van transportation is for veterans who have scheduled appointments at the VA Medical Center. The service will run weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Veterans are asked to park their private vehicles as far as possible from the business front doors.

Nominations now open for Aycock award

The Rayville Kiwanis Club is accepting nominations for the Fourth Annual Sellers Aycock Jr., Service Award.

The award is presented each year to a man or woman in Richland Parish whose achievements, leadership and service have been accomplished for the benefi t of the community.

The nominee does not have to be a member of the Rayville Kiwanis Club to be eligible but must be a resident of Richland Parish. The selection committee, chosen on a confi dential basis, is comprised of distinguished citizens of the community.

Richland represented in Miss Louisiana pageant

Richland Parish will be represented by two contestants in the 2017 Miss Louisiana Pageant this week.

The pageant will be held at 7:30 p.m. June 22–24 at the Monroe Civic Center.

Baylea Huffman of Delhi is a senior majoring in speech language pathology at ULM. She is a teacher at Miss Brandy’s School of Dance in Delhi. Huffman’s platform is “The Bucket Challenge,” which focuses on building the self-esteem of young children. She is currently serving as the reigning Miss Monroe.

Marchman seeking post on court of appeals

Judge Sharon Ingram Marchman announces her candidacy to fi ll the unexpired term of Judge Larry Lolley on the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeal.

The election is expected to be held in October for the parishes of Morehouse, Ouachita, East and West Carroll, Madison, Tensas, Richland and Franklin. Marchman, a Republican, has served as a district judge in the 4th Judicial District for 17 years.
