Holly Ridge Happenings

When I look at a patch of dandelions, I see a bunch of weeds that are going to take over my yard. My kids see flowers for mom and blowing white stuff you can wish on.

When I look at an old drunk and he smiles at me, I see a smelly, dirty person who wants money and I look away. My kids see someone smiling at them and they smile back.

When I hear music I love, I know I can’t carry a tune and don’t have much rhythm so I sit self-consciously and listen. My kids feel that beat and move to it. They sing out the words. If they don’t know them they make up their own.

When I feel wind on my face, I brace myself against it. I’ll feel it messing up my hair and pushing me back when I walk. My kids close their eyes, spread their arms and fly with it, until they fall to the ground laughing.

When I pray, I say Thee and Thou and Grant Me this, give me that. My kids say “Hi God. Thanks for my toys and my friends. Please keep the bad dreams away tonight. Sorry I don’t want to go to heaven tonight. I would miss my mommy and daddy.

When I see mud puddles, I step around them. I see muddy shoes and dirty carpet. My kids sit in them. They see bridges to build, rivers to cross.

I wonder are we given kids to teach or to learn from?

Visiting here at the store this week was Bro. Troy Dennard on Tuesday. He says Joanne is doing good and it was good to see him.

Kevin Goyne from over Swartz way came by on Saturday. He was just out riding his motorcycle and stopped by. Yes, he didn’t think I’d remember him, but I did.

David Thomas from Mer Rouge stopped in on his way to the Black Bear Golf course with a friend. Still the same old jokester, just as his mother, Charlotte Goyne Thomas, was.

Ralph and Janet Cheek enjoyed their granddaughter, Courtney, and great-grandson spending a Sunday night with them on their way home to Texas.

Our heartfelt love and sympathy to the family and friends of Lucy Wynn Best who passed away last week. She will surely be missed by so many friends and family members. May God Bless each one touched by her passing.

Here from Springfield was Roger Dew and his son Heath. Heath said he had to drive his dad now. Like driving Ms. Daisy, Ha! They were here for the services of George Dew.

Oh, yes! my Kelsie is now back in Dallas and I’m so glad. It doesn’t take nearly as long to drive to Dallas as to Atlanta. I’m grateful.

Don’t use your energy to worry. Use your energy to believe.

Happy birthday this week to Tim Stokes, Betty Corbette and Zoe Moore on Oct. 15, Tina Cox, Spence Clack and Richard Mann on Oct. 17, Jason Pyles and Caleb Franks on Oct. 18, Jason Stanley, Breleigh Mann and Alicia Blaylock on Oct. 19 and Stella Ahsher, Caroline Franklin and Dawn Mann Haskin on Oct. 20. May these celebrate many more happy ones. Anniversary wishes to Margie and Robert Chisolm on Oct. 18. May they share many more happy years together!

Our heartfelt sympathy to the Dew family who lost their loved one, George Dew, this week. May God feel the void in each life touched by his passing.

Have a great week. Do call!! To each one who so eagerly given to the Bethal and McKnight Cemetery, we thank you.

Remember: John 15: 12-13 -- “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”

Jesus is all we need.
