Rayville High School Hornets continue to roll

What does a coach do when he loses four starters from a double (2018-2019) state championship team? 

Some coaches would sigh or even cry and remember those glory days. Not Coach Damon West and his staff. They simply replace, rebuild or as some say, reload.

The latter may be the case as Coach Antonio James, no slouch himself as a coach of the junior varsity, has only lost a game or maybe two or three in the last five years.

Riverfield Academy Raiders new MAIS champs

Last Thursday night, at Jackson Academy in Jackson, Miss. the Riverfield Raiders and the Tri County Rebels took the field. 

This one was the big game. It was for the MAIS (Mid-South Association of Independent Schools) class 4A championship title. 

Riverfield came into the game with a 12-0  record while Tri County was at 10-2. The two teams had matched up in week two of the regular season and the Raiders won that game in superior come back style. 

Mangham advances to next round of state finals

The Mangham Dragons stayed on track for the state championship by defeating the Jonesboro-Hodge Tigers 54-6 last Friday night.

The Dragons took control of the game in the first quarter with 21 unanswered points. Chipping in another seven points in the second quarter, the had a 28-0 lead at halftime before scoring 13 more points in the third quarter for a 41-0 lead and then finishing off with 13 points in the fourth quarter. Jonesboro-Hodge got on the board in the final quarter with six points.

Parish teams ready for second round of playoffs

The Mangham Dragons won their first playoff game 49-26 last Friday night as they faced down the Madison Jaguars.

The win boosts the Dragons to 8-2 overall and 5-1 in district play.

The Dragons will host Jonesboro-Hodge in the second round of the playoffs at 7 p.m. Nov. 15. The Tigers come into the game at 3-7 overall and 2-1 in district.

Rayville 30, Port Allen 22

The Rayville Hornets beat General Trass 30-22 last Friday night to advance to the next round of the state playoffs.
